02Echkili-Too is a 40 km rock massif on the southern slope of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too about 30 km north-west of Talas: rock gates, caves, a lush river valley and a newly documented petroglyph site of 105 carvings at 1,400-1,600 m, studied in 2025-2026. The exact access road has not been confirmed yet; the figures on this page are approximate.
03Besh-Tash Lake is the largest of eight lakes in the Besh-Tash national park, at about 3,000 m south of Talas: turquoise water about 28 m deep in a bare glacial cirque. The gravel road ends about 15 minutes' walk below the lake; park entry is paid per person and per vehicle. Open roughly May to September.
04Kara-Koyun Cave lies at about 1,600 m above the Urmaral valley in the Bakai-Ata district of the Talas region, its entrance 10-20 m above the road: a 3 m arch, 20-30 m of passages with a lowering ceiling, salty water dripping from the roof and a revered site with a Manas legend. Wild tulips bloom in the valley in April and June; the season is May to September.
05The Talas River flows through the broad Talas Valley between mountain ranges: farmland, poplar rows and riverbank scenes.
