How far are Kyrgyzstan's filming locations from Bishkek?

Road distance and approximate drive time from Bishkek to each of the 70 filming locations in our database, from the nearest to the farthest. Use it to plan a base: locations within about three hours work as day trips from the capital, the rest need an overnight base in the region.

How the times were calculated

Coordinates come from OpenStreetMap, and routes and drive times from the OSRM routing engine on the OpenStreetMap road network, by car from the centre of Bishkek. Times are for a car without stops and without border-zone or weather delays; on mountain roads a production convoy with equipment trucks is usually slower.

High passes and plateaus such as Son-Kul are reachable roughly from June to September; for remote sites where the road ends earlier, the note column says how the location is reached from the end of the road.

21 of 70 locations are within three hours of Bishkek and 46 within six; the farthest by road is Kozho-Kelen Canyons (681 km, about 14.4 hours).

Ala-Archa Reservoir (about 18 km, half an hour), the Boyrok birch grove (32 km), Ala-Archa Gorge (39 km) and Alamedin Gorge (42 km) are all within about an hour and a half.

02How long is the drive from Bishkek to Issyk-Kul and Son-Kul?

Issyk-Kul Lake is about 187 km, roughly 2.8 hours; Son-Kul Lake is about 296 km, roughly 4.9 hours, and is reachable roughly from June to September.

03Can a crew stay in Bishkek and shoot in the mountains?

Yes for the Chuy region: its gorges, lakes, canyons and passes are 0.5-3 hours away. Issyk-Kul's south shore, Naryn, Talas, Jalal-Abad, Osh and Batken need a regional base.
